A man connected to the shooting of a Mahnomen County Sheriff's Deputy reached a plea deal with prosecutors.

The Detroit Lakes Tribune reported Daniel Vernier pleaded guilty Wednesday to being an accomplice in the shooting of Deputy Christopher Dewey.

Vernier agreed to testify against the main suspect, Thomas Fairbanks. Fairbanks is accused of shooting Dewey during a standoff in February.

In exchange for his testimony, 16 other charges against Vernier were dropped.

Vernier faces up to 24 months behind bars, when he's sentenced in September.

Dewey is recovering at a Denver hospital.
