Long anticipated, Cray Inc. signed a lease last week for more than 51,000 square feet in downtown’s Galtier Plaza that initially will bring 225 technology sector jobs to St. Paul. The 10-and-a-half-year lease includes options for an additional 15,000 square feet of space as well as extensions to the lease. The news that Cray would possibly move to St. Paul initially broke in May when the St. Paul Housing and Redevelopment Authority voted to approve a $400,000 loan to Cray Inc. to facilitate its move. Cray will bring employees in development, service, sales, marketing and administration to downtown. The initial news about Cray came on the heels of GovDelivery’s expansion to the Hamm Building in St. Paul, more than doubling the headquarters for the company that serves government entities. It also preceded the news of Microsoft’s new Minnesota office in St. Paul's Wells Fargo Place for its Expression software team. St. Paul is also home to Lawson Software, Internet Broadcasting Systems, and computer security company McAfee Inc.’s Minnesota office, among others. The construction of the Central Corridor light rail line set to begin in 2010 is expected to draw more employers and residents to downtown. |
