Humane Society Teaches Kids to Care for Pets

(ABC 6 NEWS) – Kids in the area are learning how to care for a pet thanks to the Austin Public Library.

As part of the library's summer reading program, the Mower County Humane Society brought Gypsy for show and tell.

Wednesday's program was called 'Pet Care and Responsibility,' and taught kids about the importance of caring for your pet.

“If they have a pet, they will know how to take better care of that pet. And if they don't have one and they see someone else not taking very good care of the pet, they will suggest to that child or individual maybe not to yank on the chain or let the dog go without food,”  says library assistant Anita Bruggeman.

Every Wednesday throughout the summer, the library offers free and educational programming to children.
