Pawlenty named Bob Schroeder on Thursday to the top spot in his office. Previous chief of staff Matt Kramer left this month to take a job at the University of Minnesota. From 2003 to 2008, Schroeder was Pawlenty's deputy chief of staff. He left that post last year and helped coordinate national media interviews and other political events for the GOP governor. He was a point person when Pawlenty was being considered for a spot on John McCain's presidential ticket. Pawlenty also elevated two staff members, Brian McClung and Paul Anderson, to be deputy chiefs of staff. The governor has 16 months left in his final term.
