It happened on the 1500 block of 2nd Avenue Northwest, just outside the Byron city limits and about a mile away from Byron High School. Police say the girl was pulled over by a white car that resembled a Crown Victoria and had some type of flashing lights. She says an older man who was somewhat overweight approached her car and asked to see her identification and went back to his vehicle. Police say she didn't realize something was wrong until he came back to her car. According to detective Dave Rickhus of the Olmsted County Sheriff's Department, the girl that was stopped knew that she had a couple prior speeding tickets on her record. The individual said he would give her a warning since her driving record was clear of any violations. That tipped the girl off to the fact that he was not a police officer. The girl was allowed to leave, but this entire scenario begs the question: why was this person pretending to be a police officer?
