That means more places are running low, and more people are being turned away. There's been a flurry of flu clinic cancellations. This week alone, Austin canceled a flu clinic, and Fillmore county closed theirs early when they ran out of vaccine. Lines ran down the halls Thursday afternoon at the Olmsted county government center, "This year we have 6 different options for people to attend," says Olmsted County Wellness Coordinator Amy Hoot. But the Olmsted County clinic is only available to county and city workers and their families. So with flu vaccines running low at some hospitals and clinics, this year, more and more people are finding new places to go. Places like the clinic at Rochester's Target south. Holly Wright is a nurse practitioner there. She says first time patients tell her why they’ve come. "They said their clinics have either run out or moved their appointments further into October or cancelled appointments - so we're filling a void because we have vaccine and are still able to order vaccine," says Wright. "From our numbers last year it's about 50 percent more than we saw last year for just flu vaccines at this time of year,” Wright says. One day this week she says she gave 90 flu shots. |
