The neo-Nazi party plans to demonstrate Saturday morning outside the YWCA on Lake Street west of Hiawatha. The group is protesting a workshop on anti-racism. But the voices of neo-Nazis won't be the only ones heard. A group of residents is organizing a counter protest. Members of the group have been going door to door in south Minneapolis handing out "No to the Nazis" fliers. They say they are for free speech, but will not tolerate the hate speech coming from the Nazis. Neo-Nazi rallys in the Twin Cities have had a history of exploding into violence. In 1998, a nazi rally in downtown St. Paul turned into a riot. No one knows how many people will show up at Saturdays rallies. Minneapolis police said they are prepared to keep the peace. |
