Big Game Means Big Bucks
(ABC 6 NEWS) - It may have been the biggest, most hyped-up regular-season Minnesota Vikings game, ever.
Last night's Vikings-Packers game was the must see event because it was Brett Favre's debut against his former team.
And all the excitement added up in the form of dollar signs for local businesses.
"It's a big game - it's THE game so far," said Vikings fan Andy Hoot.
Hoot and his friends came out to Rochester’s new Catch 22 sports bar to take part in the excitement.
"The (defense) is doing alright - it's a good game," says Hoot.
And the excitement went well beyond the sports bars.
The Apollo liquor store in southeast Rochester saw three times their typical business on this Monday night.
"By 4 O’clock we had already done as much business as we usually do on a typical Monday night," said cashier Jeff Gruber.
"We're just celebrating the Viking, Packer game tonight, so - that's why we stopped," says Viking fan Carrie Peterson, who stopped at the store before heading to watch the game on a friend's big-screen TV.
The Peterson family are big Vikings fans. They all wore Adrian Peterson Vikings jerseys, that is, except for their dog, Gracie – who was in the car wearing an old number 80 Cris Carter jersey.
And across town - pizza orders at Domino’s went through the roof.
"It’s been very, very busy for Monday - it's like triple the size of (a normal) Monday, right now," says store manager Moose Kamel.
They worked hard to get their orders out quickly.
The fans at the bar were very clear about which team they wanted to win, including Andy Hoot.
"I'd personally like the Packers to completely get their butts kicked," said Hoot.
