Posted at: 10/07/2009 7:24 PM Hanna Losey(ABC 6 NEWS) -- It's hard to believe, but we're just a few weeks away from the playoffs in high school volleyball, and the Kingsland Knights have set themselves up for what they hope is a long postseason run. Hanna Losey does it all for Kingsland. She's a team captain... "I like being a leader." ... leads the Knights in kills and blocks... "Just the feeling after you get an awesome kill or an awesome block and celebrating it." ... but the thing she's probably best known for is this. The jump serve isn't easy, and it's taken Losey awhile to get it down. "Lots of practice. Sometimes staying after practice and working on it." "It's becoming a little bit more common, though. You're seeing it at a lot more schools, but it depends on the individual," says head coach Lisa Bicknese. And Losey is one of the few who can deliver the desired effect. "It's topspin. So it doesn't fly out-of-bounds more. It has topspin, so it comes down inbounds harder, faster," Losey says. Heading into this week, the Knights were tied for first place in the Three Rivers Conference, and they hope to keep the momentum going heading into the playoffs later this month. "It's really exciting to think that now we're on the top, so we're gonna be the team to beat," Losey says. "Hopefully, we'll get a high seed so that we can have a home game in the first two games," Bicknese says. Hanna Losey, our Female Prep Athlete of the Week. |
