Albert Lea Football

The Century Panthers football team came into their game with Albert Lea on Friday ranked 7th in Class 5A.

They were heavy favorites, but the improbable happened.

Albert lea, which had only won 8 games in the past five years, beat century 26 to 21.

The Tigers win over Century was one of the those perfect storms of a night-terrible conditions, a hungry football team, and an upset in the making.

"To come out and beat a ranked team and really take it to em for the whole game, it was really special for us," said Tigers head coach Clay Anderson.

"We're going into the game all fired up. We were just gonna go in there, leave everything on the field and whatever happens, happens," said quarterback Kyle Kriewall.

"I knew we had it in us. I just didn't know it was going to turn out like that. It was pretty sweet."

It was the Tigers first win of the year, and one of the biggest in coach Clay Anderson's five year career.

"No doubt here it's the biggest win we've had. On paper we weren't supposed to be in the game," he said.

But they were in the game, and they went into halftime up 18 to 7.

That's when the tigers knew something good was in the works.

"We moved the ball well on the team. Our defense was making some big stops. I guess that's when we started right there before the half I thought we did have a good chance of winning it," said Kriewall.

They would score right away in the third quarter to make it 26 to 7, and would never look back.

"We just stopped their game. They couldn't do much against us," said Klatt.

"We've improved as the year has gone on. I think it really shows the character of our kids," said Anderson.

"Everyone is going to practice everyday. They're working hard. Everyone is getting better every week and we're competing with the teams that we're playing and things are starting to fall into place," said Kriewall.
