With the section tournament just around the corner, their success may hinge on the only varsity player who plays volleyball year-round. ABC 6 Sports Reporter TJ Werre introduces us to the Female Prep Athlete of the Week. Chelsea Weisner will be the first to tell you her career at John Marshall has seen a lot of change. She has been playing varsity for the Rockets since eighth grade, and in that time has gone through three head coaches. "The program hasn't really been building the best for years and it's just starting to get getting all these freshman in and coaches that stick around," Weisner said. The Rockets start three freshman and a junior that just picked up volleyball this year. "She dictates our defense, especially last week. She did a great job on defense. She's very important for this team." John Marshall head coach Amir Dzamalija said. "We always let up in games where we let the other team win when it gets down to the nitty gritty. We told each other, 'Don't let up. We still have some fight,'" Weisner said. Weisner had 24 digs and four aces in those two games, and she hopes this will give the team a much-needed boost of confidence heading into the section tournament. "We think that we have a lot to prove because our season wasn't too great," Weisner said. Her coach doesn't doubt she can lead the Rockets deep into the post-season. "She's a competitor. She likes to compete. She likes to win," Dzamalija said Chelsea Weisner ... the ABC 6 Sports Female Prep Athlete of the Week. |
