Wilson to Retire from Austin Fire Dept.

(ABC 6 NEWS) - Austin's fire chief says he's stepping down at the end of the year.

Dan Wilson tells ABC 6 News that he notified city administration of his plans to retire next month.

Wilson is a longtime member of the Austin fire department. In a career that spans several decades, he rose through the ranks to become chief in the early 1990's.

Wilson says his decision to retire is unrelated to recent complaints of unfavorable working conditions in the department. The city council met in closed session today to discuss the complaint.

Council members were unable to discuss the matter due to data privacy issues.
