Parents Concerned Over Lack of Vaccine

(ABC 6 NEWS) - More and more parents are becoming concerned as they’re told they can’t get the H1N1 vaccine yet for their kids.

It’s a major concern for a Kasson family, especially because one of the youngest members of the family, Josh Privett, has asthma.

"It’s really bad, it makes me stay home sometimes," the first grader says.

According to the CDC, asthma patients are at a higher risk for having complications with the H1N1 flu and should receive the vaccination.

But that's not an option for Josh or any members of the Privett family.

"We’re one of the main ones that should be getting it, but we can't because it's not available," says Mother of Five Heather Privett.

That means the Minnesota Mother is constantly worried about her five children.

"My first primary concern is just the daily concerns of sending them to school, going to church, are they going to come into contact with somebody," she says.

Even though she hasn't been able to get her children vaccinated, she isn't going to stop trying.

She says she is constantly calling clinics to check up on vaccination supplies.

"It’s frustrating that it's not available, that they're not making enough. [It] makes you wish you could do something about it," Privett says.

But the only thing she can do is hope.

"I’m a praying mom and I just give it to God, hope they don't get it," Privett says.

It’s a prayer that there will be many more days just like this one with healthy, happy children.
