Kim Herzog is just one concerned parent who contacted 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS after learning that Park Nicollet has postponed H1N1 booster shots. She has twin 21-month-old girls. They were born prematurely and had lung problems, therefore they are considered high risk. Both girls have received one shot of the H1N1 vaccine, but the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend children younger than nine receive a second dose. Herzog said, "We don't know what this flu virus will do to them if they contract it. We're scared." The Minnesota Health Department said parents shouldn't worry. Health officials said delaying the second vaccine does not make the first shot less effective. Park Nicollet officials said they decided to postpone the second round of vaccines because there are still 9,000 people in high risk grounds waiting for their first dose. |
