Student Food Drive Comes to an End

(ABC 6 NEWS) -- In just one month, twenty local school districts have done something pretty unbelievable.

Tonight, we got the results for the first ever channel one student food drive.

It's sponsored by Tyson Foods, which also gave 30,000 pounds to get things started.

The goal for students was 40,000 additional pounds, and the final total 81,244 pounds.

"We went into this, we thought this might be something where we bring kids together, teach them a little about volunteerism, hopefully get them engaged in the fight against hunger, but this has gone beyond our wildest dreams," says Jennifer Woodford.

"A lot of study halls, after school, before school, during lunch, but we had lots of help though, it was really nice to see that people where willing to give up their time to help," says students Hanna Corcoran and Casey Kuenn.

So here are the winners, for large schools, first place goes to Austin, followed by John Marshal.

For the smaller schools, the big winner is Spring Grove, followed by Chatfield.

For most creative event, Spring Grove winning again.

And most spirit, two schools taking home the title Chatfield and LeRoy-Ostrander.

All the food will now go back into each of the participating towns.
