Man in Custody After 4-Hour Standoff in Edina

A standoff in Edina ended just after 6 p.m. Friday. Police had been on the scene, near Lake Cornelia Park, for nearly four hours.

Police said they were called to a home near the Highway 100 and Crosstown interchange around 2:30 p.m.

A woman told police her boyfriend, an Iraq war vet, was inside the home and had a gun.

At least 20 tactical officers from Edina and Eden Prairie surrounded the home.

Police warned neighbors to stay inside their homes.

Officials said they were concerned the man might try to harm himself. They thought he might have more than one weapon.

Police set up a command center at the Edina Aquatic Center which is located near Southdale Mall.

They had been trying to reach the man by phone for several hours. Around 6 p.m. they finally succeeded and managed to convince him to surrender.

Police officials said the man was taken into custody and transferred to a medical facility.
