Strusz was located around 6:00 pm November 20, 2009. Strusz was located approximately two miles north from where he went missing. When located, Strusz was cold and hungry but was in good physical condition, suffering only a cut to his right hand. Strusz had spent the night sleeping in a cornfield. Strusz went missing around 3:50 pm on Thursday, November 19th after the fertilizer truck he had been operating was discovered in a slough. Evidence at the scene indicated that Strusz had walked away from the truck and had crossed terrain that was agricultural as well as wooded and lowland. A search of the area, which included the use of a canine unit and helicopter equipped with infrared search capabilities, was unable to locate Strusz at that time. The search resumed on Friday with over 60 volunteers searching roads, ditches, and waterways and building sites. Strusz was not located during the active part of the search, but was located by family approximately two and a half hours after the search had concluded. The Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank all the many volunteers who assisted in this search including First Responders from several area fire departments, The Salvation Army, REACT members and Freeborn County Emergency Management. |
