Here's a recap of this Fall's Female Prep Athletes of the Week. Stewartville's Ahna Buntrock almost didn't start running track until seventh grade. Turns out, she made a good decision. The freshman earned a spot in the state tournament and she finished 90th out of 159 runners. Century's Emilie Renault had won two doubles championships heading into her senior season, so she tried her hand with singles and she fared just fine. She finished her tennis career with an appearance in the state tournament. The NRHEG volleyball team's most dangerous weapon is sophomore Anna Schlack. She averaged over 13 kills per game, helping lead the Panthers to the semi-finals of the Section 2AA tournament. If you are on the receiving end of a Hannah Losey jump serve, you better say your prayers. The Kingsland junior helped lead the Knights to a 3 Rivers conference championship. There aren't many natural left-footed soccer players, but Albert Lea's Mariah Maras is one of those rarities. She's also helped take the Tigers to the Section 2A semifinals for the third straight year. Lisa Johnen is an exchange student from Germany, and she was a standout on the Lyle/Pacelli tennis team. In her only season, she advanced to the semifinals in the Class A state singles tournament. The John Marshall volleyball team has struggled in recent memory, but one of their bright spots was senior Chelsea Wiesner. The five year varsity player has signed to play at Bemidji State next year. Jordyn Dudek is a senior, and she is one of the best setters in the 3 Rivers conference. She helped lead the Gophers to the Section 1AA semifinals. Haley Splinter is just a freshman, but that doesn't seem to matter in cross country. The Austin runner earned a berth to state, where she finished in 46th. The Byron Bears volleyball team had never been to the state tournament. That is, until this year. They took out Kasson-Mantorville, Stewartville and Caledonia for the Section 1AA crown. The Austin 200 yard medlay relay team had been to state before, but this year was the first time they advanced to the championship race. They finished 10th at state this year. These are your ABC 6 Sports Female Prep Athletes of the Fall season. |
