Local Bankers Sleep in the Cold for a Good Cause

Twin Cities families are facing a perfect storm of lost jobs, lost housing and less help.  One local non-profit is hoping to change that, one sleep out at a time.

For six weeks, volunteers with Interfaith Outreach and Community Partners will take turns spending the night in the cold to raise awareness and money for affordable housing. 

For the second year in a row, representatives from nine area banks have come together to support Sleep Out.  Friday night, a group of them spent the night in Heritage Park in Wayzata.  They've raised $18,011 so far this year.  Their goal is $25,000. 

Down the street in Medina, a group of 6th graders from Holy Name Church braved the below freezing temperatures to raise money for Sleep Out.  The church has participated since 2005.  Last year they raised nearly $25,000.

For 30 years IOCP has been a leader is responding to the housing needs in the communities they serve.
