Posted at: 12/15/2009 1:44 PM 911: Wife Tried to Get Help for Husband Who Shot HerThe transcript of a 911 call showed a Stillwater woman's desperate attempts to calm her agitated husband, and get him help, before he shot and killed her and police shot and killed him. According to police Gerald Propps shot his wife Gertrude Propps in their apartment at the Victoria Villa complex on South Greeley Street in Stillwater apartment Friday and then confronted police. An officer shot and killed Gerald Propps. Friday around 4:30 p.m. Gertrude Propps called 911. Initially she asked for an ambulance to take her husband to the VA hospital. She said he was dehydrated and was scheduled to go to the hospital to get healthy for an upcoming surgery. She told the dispatcher that she attempted to convince him to get dressed so she could drive him to the hospital, but he wouldn't cooperate. She said he was, "really out of his mind." Eventually Gerald Propps picked up the phone. He said, "I'm going to get help and going to get help by myself." Later he was heard saying to Gertrude, "If I were to do anything. I'd do it to, to you now. I'd do it to you now." After several minutes, the phone cut out. When the sound returned, a woman yelled "I'm letting go of you. I'm letting go of you. Don't." Her shout was followed by the pop of gunshots and screaming. A woman, later identified as Gertrude Propps daughter, grabbed the phone and told the dispatcher, "He shot her." The dispatcher asked,"He has the gun right now?" The woman replied, "He does. I'm dragging her into the hallway." Police arrived moments later. Officers were heard saying, "Put that gun down. Put it down. Put it down. Drop it right now." The commands were followed by numerous popping sounds. An officer shot and killed Gerald Propps. Propps daughter was shot in the shootout. Police believe a bullet from Propps' gun went through the wall and hit her. Gertrude Propps was taken to Regions Hospital where she died. Her daughter was injured, but survived. |
