The murder happened this summer in Charles City, Iowa. The killing shocked the community and even more shocking, the age of the person police say is responsible. After months of deliberation a Floyd County Judge has finally made a decision to try Edgar Concepcion Jr. as an adult. Concepcion Jr. is being charged with murder in the first degree, as well as first-degree sexual assault. At just 14 years old he allegedly sexually assaulted and killed a three-year-old girl that he was babysitting. On July 10th, Charles City authorities responded to 406 South Johnson Street in Charles City where they found three-year-old Krystal Banes unresponsive. She later died and an autopsy listed asphyxiation as the cause. Kim Brady lives next door to where the murder took place and says months later, she still worries about the family. "My biggest concern really was there's little kids over there and this was a tragedy and just imagine what they're going through," says Brady. He will now be tried as an adult and at 14 years old some say that may be too young. "Something happened and I think he needs some kind of therapy, extensive. You know he has his whole life in front of him. I think it's just a waste," says Brady. At last check Concepcion Jr. is being held at the Blackhawk County Detention Center. The Floyd County Attorney was not able to comment on when Concepcion's next hearing will take place, but did say he is being tried on five different charges. |
