Anonymously, people are giving Christmas jars filled with money they've collected all year long to people who could use a helping hand. "When I came home there was a Wal-Mart bag with a note on it on my door step," said David Brown. Thursday afternoon David Brown of Kasson, Minnesota found a jar filled to the brim with change and paper bills. Along with it came an anonymous note that read "Merry Christmas David and Nick." "I was very touched. I cried a little of course, it's been a couple of rough, really rough months," Brown said. In the last few months alone, Brown has been laid off from his job and has separated from his wife. He and his 15-year-old son, Nick, are living in an apartment. "I was feeling pretty hopeless, things like that, wondering just how I was going to pay my bills." Brown said. The spare change added up to $89.34. It's not enough to turn things around financially, but it was enough to help him begin to turn his life around. "It rekindled hope in my heart," he added. As the tradition goes, that feeling of hope is something brown will give to someone next Christmas. "It’s going to be a constant reminder for me all year long as I put money in the jar that I’m going to have the joy at Christmas time to give hope to someone else," Brown said. And that's what Christmas is all about. Brown said he didn't know about the book or the tradition when he received his jar, but his mother told him about the tradition. Now he is spreading the news to his friends who, in turn, are starting their own jars. |
