Freezing rain is being blamed. Parts of Iowa have been draped in ice, leading to accidents and downed power lines. In Minnesota, MN DOT has been prepared. As freezing rain plagued parts of Iowa with icy roads and downed power lines Minnesota waits. "We've been kind of waiting for this freezing rain to come in," says Curt Kiefer with MN DOT. MN DOT drivers across southern Minnesota are out in full force, treating some icy patches. "There's a few scattered slick spots so we've just been going around taking care of those," says Kiefer. Slippery roads may have led to several accidents Wednesday night, like a rollover on Highway 14. Along I-90 Eastbound near Dexter, a semi-truck went off the road and emergency crews worked to pull it up an embankment. MN DOT says they are prepared to deal with more slick roads as the night continues and through Thursday morning. Several school districts that said they will continue to monitor the weather closely and wait until morning before deciding to close school. |
