Investigators Awaiting Blood Test Results
(ABC 6 NEWS) – There are new details in a deadly crash near Hayfield. The man involved has a number of driving convictions, including one for driving under the influence as a minor.
The state patrol believes 23-year-old David Stanton of Hayfield had been drinking when he crashed into a car driven by 70-year-old Marie Gilbertson, also of Hayfield.
It happened Friday. Gilbertson died at the scene. Stanton was treated and released from the hospital.
At this point he is not in custody, and has not been charged with any crime. The State Patrol says they are waiting for blood tests to come back before moving forward with possible charges. That could take up to a month.
ABC 6 News looked into Stanton's past. Court papers show a history of driving convictions, including four for speeding.
The most recent speeding conviction came earlier this month, just a week before the crash that killed Gilbertson.
In 2005, Stanton, then 18, was convicted of minor consumption and DUI under 21.
