The fight over the desecration of hundreds of graves took center stage at the University of Minnesota Wednesday.
Officials from the United Nations along with the school’s human rights program heard testimony from families and students.
They said 900 Hmong graves in Thailand were dug up and destroyed during construction at a Buddhist temple in 2005.
They’re now asking for the UN’s help to stop similar incidents in the future.
Hmong officials stated that the grave desecrations was one of the 'most serious violations against our culture, our way of life, and of course our way of practicing our religious tradition.'
The UN will review all the testimony before making recommendations on how to prevent further desecrations.
