Pawlenty Looks to Privatize State Assets

(ABC 6 NEWS) -- An airport, a major zoo, and land holdings the size of the country of Belize are just some of the things on the chopping block for Minnesota.

As many as 44 states, including Minnesota, are looking into selling or leasing valuable assets to garner some desperately needed cash.

Governor Tim Pawlenty has hinted that his January budget will include similar proposals to close a more than $5-billion deficit without raising taxes.

Lawmakers are also pushing to privatize the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.

That alone could bring in at least $2.5 billion.
