(ABC 6 NEWS) -- The Olmsted County Board voted 4-to-3 to allow a Winona ethanol company to annex land into the county.
The move allows an ethanol plant to be built in Eyota.
From 7:00 until almost 11:00 last night, some people living in Eyota voiced their opposition to Minnergy's new plant.
They say it'll have negative effects on the community's air and water.
"It's very disappointing. They don't realize the effect they're going to have on the people that live very close to that plant, and it raises a lot of emotions for us, and concerns," says Renee Smith, who lives near the Minnergy land.
"I think they'll be surprised that it will not damage the water and the air and they'll see over time - this is gonna be a good project for the region, for the city and for the community, in and around Eyota," says Minnergy President Ron Scherbring.
Opponents say it's not over; they have a lawsuit pending against the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency related to their oversight in this case.
Construction is slated to begin this fall. It'll employ 35 to 45 full-time workers.
