(ABC 6 NEWS) -- The number of H1N1 flu cases continues to multiply in the United States. The CDC says there are now 226 confirmed cases in 30 states. Last week at this time, there were just 20 cases in five states.
Minnesota health officials have lowered the number of probable cases from eight to six, saying that two suspected cases turned out to be seasonal influenza. Health officials are still waiting for remaining test results from the CDC.
The health department has not reported any new probable cases since yesterday. So far there's only one confirmed case in the state, a woman who has tied to Rocori Middle School in Cold Spring.
That school is expected to re-open Wednesday while a connecting school, Saint Boniface Elementary will re-open tomorrow. And there are more schools to add to the closure list. Last night we told you that the Marshalltown Community School District in Iowa will be closing their doors through May tenth. Now, several Minnesota schools are closing up shop as well.
The Orono School District will be closed tomorrow and all activities will be canceled due to a probable case of the H1N1 flu at the school. Superintendent Karen Orcutt says she's erring on the side of caution and closing all four schools. The school district serves six different suburbs of western Minneapolis. The Emerson Spanish immersion school in Minneapolis is also closing because of a probable case.
Health department officials say the schools will stay closed as a precaution until confirmation testing is complete. Students are being advised to stay at home and avoid gathering with other students.
