From authentic German fare to ice cream sundaes, you'll find a variety of dining options at the six restaurants in Houston. And whatever your lodging pleasure, Houston can accommodate you with cabins, a guest house, a bed and breakfast, a bunkhouse, a hotel, and three campgrounds.

The best trailhead in the state is found in Houston, at the east end of the Root River Trail. The Houston Nature Center serves as the trailhead facility with hands-on nature displays, Alice the (live) Great Horned Owl, clean restrooms, and free showers. The surrounding park sports recycled bicycle art, a walk-in tent camping area, picnic shelter, band shell, and native prairie plantings lining the trail.

There's plenty to do outdoors around Houston besides biking. Deer hunters can try their luck for one of the area's big bucks, and turkey hunters can test their mettle against their wily prey. There are also several horse trails in the area, with two lodging establishments catering to horse aficionados.

Festivals and events come in all shapes and sizes in Houston, from Houston Hoedown Days in July to the International Festival of Owls in March to the Root River Triathlon in May.
