25 Year Old Spring Valley Man Killed In Accident

(ABC 6 NEWS) -- A 25 year old man from Spring Valley was killed in a collision between a car and a semi Thursday night. It happened along Highway 63.

The Minnesota State Patrol reports that William E. Schmoll of Spring Valley was killed on the scene of the accident.  The report states that it is unknown if Schmoll was wearing a seat belt.  Schmoll was driving a 1994 Honda Civic.

The driver of the semi, a 58 year old man from Kensington, MN, wasn't hurt.

The Fillmore County Sheriff's Office assisted the State Patrol on the scene of the accident around 8:45pm Thursday.

Authorities say Schmoll pulled his car to the side of the road and had the flashers on.  They say a semi spotted the car and slowed down.  Authorities say that is when Schmoll pulled into the lane of traffic to turn left down a farm road.  The two vehicles collided, sending Schmoll's vehicle into the ditch.

This is the second deadly car vs. semi crash in dense fog in southeast Minnesota this week.

Late Wednesday morning, a 27 year old woman from Hartland was killed when her car hit a semi head-on near Manchester in Freeborn County.
