David Springer is the ABC 6 News Assistant News Director and keeps his skills sharp by continuing on-air reporting.
David Springer joined ABC 6 News from News 12 Connecticut, just outside of New York City. David worked at News 12 for 13 years and was senior reporter when he left to join his wife Heather and daughter Kyra in Minnesota.
David is a five time Emmy winner for reporting and two-time recipient of the National Edward R. Murrow Award for news writing. David has covered stories from the TWA Flight 800 explosion off the coast of Long Island, NY to the World Trade Center attacks. But he's also covered the softer side of the news including stories featuring local bands and hometown heroes. One of his Emmys is for a story on the largest model railroad east of the Mississippi River.
Prior to his time in Connecticut, David was the Bureau Chief for WJWJ in Hilton Head, South Carolina. David also worked as a reporter/anchor for KPIC in Roseburg, Oregon. He graduated from Walla Walla Community College in 1989 and Washington State University in 1991.
His mother Barbara and twin brothers Kyle and Bjorn live in Oregon. His father David Sr, step mother Cindy and brothers Peter, Josh and Ian live in Pennsylvania. In his spare time, David loves to play golf and has been fortunate enough to play on courses ranging from Pinehurst to Bandon Dunes to most recently, Pebble Beach. He's currently teaching his wife the patience and calm needed to play the game.
