Ericka graduated from UM with a double major in Broadcast Journalism and Political Science. While at Miami she volunteered at the campus TV station, UMTV, on the Emmy award winning news program NewsVision, as an anchor and reporter.  She also rowed on the women's crew team and was a member and officer of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority.  Ericka interned at KGAN, an affiliate in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and the TV syndication company NewsProNet, whom she also worked for as a freelance producer.  In the summer of 2004, Ericka traveled to Prague, Czech Republic, where she spent a month living and writing in conjunction with the Prague Post, the English language newspaper.

A native of West Union, Iowa, Ericka says she's thrilled to be back in the Midwest with "fresh air and starry skies you can actually see at night!"   She loves any kind of animal, especially horses.  Ericka started riding and showing quarter horses when she was four and continued until she was in college.  Ericka spent a year traveling across the country with her horse, "The Modern Touch" or Zippo as he's called competing in events. She says it's only a matter of time til she returns to her "one true love".  Ericka also loves anything in the great outdoors, traveling, the Miami Hurricanes, and reading.
