Wanamingo man killed in Monday evening house fire

(ABC 6 News) – A 56-year-old Wanamingo man was killed in a house fire Monday evening.
At approximately 9:40 pm, the Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a house fire at the 500 block of Braget Circle in Wanamingo.
The Sheriff’s Office said the homeowners were in bed when they smelled something burning. The wife told law enforcement that she thought her husband was behind her when they attempted to leave.
A neighbor called 911 then attempted to enter the home but was met by heavy black smoke. A responding deputy arrived but encountered heavy black smoke and was also unable to enter the home.
The Wanamingo Fire/Rescue Department arrived shortly after and began fighting the fire and ventilating the home. The husband was located in the residence a short time later.
Life-saving measures were attempted but 56-year-old Jay Siegle, died on the scene. Monica Siegle was transported to St. Mary’s for evaluation.
Zumbrota Ambulance, Mayo One, the Southern MN Regional Medical Examiner’s Office, and the State Fire Marshall’s Office also responded to the scene.
The fire is not considered suspicious but the Fire Marshall’s Office responded to determine the cause of the fire
