(ABC 6 News) – The Austin Packers girls basketball lost to #1 seed Becker Bulldogs in the State quarterfinal game.
Going into the game, it was the Packers’ third trip to State in the last four years and they ended up giving Becker a handful throughout. Ultimately, Austin tried to hang on but fell to a dry spell as Becker came from behind to win 53-48.
Packers coach Erick Zoske expressed his thoughts on the tournament’s seeding postgame, believing the Packers and Bulldogs shouldn’t have played in the first round. It was a sentiment echoed by Becker head coach Dan Baird as well.
Hope Dudycha and Olivia Walsh lead all Packers with 12 points. Emma Dudycha had nine, Reanna Schmitt with eight and seven for Cassidy Shute respectively.
The Packers will play in the consolation round Thursday at 2 p.m. against Benilde-St. Margaret’s.
