(ABC 6 News) – PetSmart hosted its National Adoption Event at its Rochester locations Saturday in partnership with Camp Companion.
The foster-based animal rescue, Camp Companion, had both cats and dogs at PetSmart stores for people to come out and meet these furry friends and even adopt them.
Organizers said events like these really help get more people to adopt, especially because they weren’t able to host them during the peaks of the pandemic.
"All of our animals are in foster homes besides we do have some that we keep in the stores. So, an event is an opportunity for fosters to bring their animals out and people can meet them, see them, fall in love with them. It’s just a great way to get animals adopted," Lisa Carlson, a volunteer and foster with Camp Companion, said.
Camp Companion said it luckily did not have a lot of people returning pets during the pandemic compared to what other animal shelters saw when pet owners headed back to work.
"We’ve waited a long time without having any events when COVID first came out and then we started coming back to it again. Then when Omicron came out we had just started coming back a couple of times a month and then we shut it all down again. So, this is our first time out in a couple of months," Kris Rentschler, also a foster with Camp Companion, said.
