Hormel Institute hosts ‘Young Scientists’

(ABC 6 News) – The Hormel Institute hosted 270 seventh graders from Albert lea area schools to learn more about stem education Wednesday.

During the event, students took part in several activities including extracting DNA from strawberries, learning more about liquid nitrogen and its properties and using 3-D goggles, students will be able to view cells and molecules

Students also got to learn more about different careers at the Institute, like research development.

"The younger that we can get youth engaged in science and hands-on learning, we know that the more likey it is they are going to be choosing carears in science, and that will help us get out next generation of scientists," Community Outreach Education Manager Kelly Vincelette said.

The Institute used to host sixth graders but switched based on ciriculum and science standards being life science.
