Board seeks support in resurfacing Miracle Field

(ABC 6 News) – Miracle Field in Rochester, was created with the vision of making baseball playable for everyone, including those with disabilities.

Laurie Brownell who coordinates volunteers for Miracle Field said the vision of Miracle Field was to make baseball accessible for those with disabilities.

"That’s the most important thing about Miracle Field, everyone gets to play," Brownwell said.

However, every baseball field sustains wear and tear. Now Miracle Field has the opportunity to get a softer surface.

Brownell explains why getting a softer surface is so important. "If someone were to fall, that surface cushions the fall and is not rough."

This field will especially help people like A.J. Fischer, who has been playing at Miracle Field for nine years. He has a condition where his skin is more fragile. He explains how the new surface would help him.

A.J. Fischer describes what the new surface would do for him given his disability. "Not tripping over and scraping my knee or scraping my hands if I catch my fall. Just to make sure I am healed and safe, I have these… bandages on."

It would also help people like Arianna Fischer, who has a condition with her spine.

"I can drive without my hands bouncing off the controls because the ground will be smoother."

Participants at Miracle Field range in ages 5 to 83, and members have a wide range of disabilities. The goal is to get $200,000 to fix the surface as quickly as possible in time for the 2022 season.

So far, they’re about 43 percent of the way towards their $200,000 fundraiser goal.
