RPD: Man’s necklace taken while trying on jewelry in Walmart parking lot

(ABC 6 News) – A man reportedly had his own necklace taken while he tried on other jewelry at the Walmart south parking lot.

Police said the 60-year-old man of Asian descent from Rochester was at Walmart on April 2 around 3 p.m. when a couple in a dark color van approached him. The couple wanted the man to try on some jewelry and he did. Police said they put the jewelry on him and told him to keep it.

The man reportedly went inside to do his shopping and as he was leaving realized a necklace he normally wears was gone. He believes the couple took it while they were putting on the other necklace. The necklace the couple put on him was fake.

The necklace that was taken is worth around $1,500.

Police said similar incidents have been reported in Rochester in the past. Police said it appears these thieves target older people of Asian descent.
