(ABC 6 News) – Tonight, Mayor Kim Norton, the Parks and Recreation dept, community members, and the ‘Friends of Silver Lake’ are holding a meeting on the silver lake bonding proposal which includes changes to the Silver Lake dam.

The last time Silver Lake was dredged was 25 years ago. Sediment removal in the lake is needed to comply with flood mitigation requirements.

The project includes the removal of the 1937 Silver Lake dam and replacing it with a 400-foot channel of cascading pools, which expands various recreational activities like canoeing and kayaking.

However, a group in Rochester, the ‘Friends of Silver Lake’ is trying to save the dam.

ABC 6 News Reporter Mackenzie Davis will have more on this story tonight at 10.
