Second RCTC football player takes plea deal in assault case

(ABC 6 News) – Akim Richmond, a former football player for Rochester Community and Technical College, accepted a plea deal during a hearing in Olmsted County Court Tuesday, Nov. 22.

Richmond and Shan Fiorenza faced assault charges after a fight broke out after an Oct. 24, 2021 game.

RCTC was playing Minnesota West Community and Technical College, and according to court documents, the two RCTC players, got in a physical altercation with the other team’s coach.

Richmond, 22, will serve one year of probation after accepting one stayed charge of 5th-degree assault–fear of bodily harm or death.

He was also ordered to pay $440 in fines and fees.

Two additional charges of 3rd-degree assault–substantial bodily harm and 5th-degree assault–inflict or attempt bodily harm were dismissed.

Fiorenza, who faced additional charges in Olmsted County Court, pleaded guilty to 3rd-degree assault earlier in the year.

Neither man currently attends RCTC.
