Kasson-Mantorville Softball starts 2022 with shutout win over Pine Island

(ABC 6 News) — High school softball started anew in the Austin Dome for Pine Island and Kasson-Mantorville Thursday.

The game initially stayed scoreless, Panthers pitcher Caitlyn Lerum and KoMets pitcher Ell Babcock both getting early strikeouts.

But it would be at the bottom of the third when the KoMets would eventually breakthrough, Auburey Abbott coming home on a fielder’s choice for the first score. Later, Mckenzie Rich would blast a two-run homer into right field to make it 3-0.

In the fifth inning, K-M would rake in five more runs before winning 10-0 after six innings via the run rule. Ella Babcock starting 2022 with a shutout as the KoMets get the season-opening victory.
