(ABC 6 News) — As Memorial Day draws closer, it also means the return of Rochester Honkers baseball.
The Honkers’ new season kicks off on Monday and they’ll be breaking in new uniforms as this new roster gets ready for summer.
Two summers ago, the team had a paltry 7-30 record before turning that into 30-37 last season. 2022’s edition of the Honkers will return several players from last year such as outfielders Alex Pimentel, Nico Regino and Jack Collette. Additionally, there are two-way players Kevin Dowdell and A.J. Campbell as well as pitcher Frank Craska who did not allow an earned run in limited action last summer.
Two years removed from the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Honkers hope to have more support in the stands with a new logo and attitude in tow. With more enthusiasm and excitement from the team in store, Rochester looks poised to start its quest for a sixth Northwoods League title on May 30.
The Honkers will be hosting the Willmar Stingers at 6:35 PM and will play them again on Tuesday. For fans interested in going to Mayo Field, tickets are available on the team’s website.
