Iowa Gov. Reynolds signs E15 bill into law

(ABC 6 News) – Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds signed the Biofuels Bill into law Tuesday making Iowa the first state to require gas pumps to sell E15 fuel.

It is projected by 2026, almost all fuel sold in Iowa will be at least 15 percent ethanol. Plus, it will be cheaper.

Having this percentage of ethanol in fuel lowers the cost to consumers. E15 will be ten to 20 cents per gallon cheaper than E10.

Ethanol is also a cleaner burning option so it reduces the amount of greenhouse gases emitted.

"The administration is encouraging Americans who can’t afford gas to buy an electric car. If that’s no solution, the true answer is biofuels. I’ve never been prouder than I am today to be the governor of the number one ethanol and biodiesel producing state in the country," Gov. Reynolds said.

This bill will also create about 4,000 more jobs for Iowans.

"It’s good for the Iowa economy, it’s good for the environment, it’s good for the farmers, it’s good for Iowa jobs," Chad Kuhlers, CEO of Golden Grain Energy in Mason City, said.

Any care that was made after 2001 has the option to use E15.

The hope for the future is that E15 will be used at every pump across the United States.
