$5,000 in copper wire stolen from CenturyLink work site

(ABC 6 News) – Rochester police say around $5,000 in copper wiring was stolen from a CenturyLink work area between Monday, May 16, and Tuesday, May 17.

CenturyLink workers left a work space in an alleyway behind 902-1006 N Broadway at about 8 p.m. Monday and returned around 9 a.m. Tuesday.

In between those times, an unknown person or group stole 4,000 units of copper wire.

CenturyLink told Rochester police the replacement cost for the materials would be around $5,000.

People in the area reported that internet service went down around 8:17 p.m. Monday night, which may be when the theft took place.
