(ABC 6 News) – Every Wednesday in December, ABC 6 News Good Morning reporter Sydney Zatz is sharing how people in our community celebrate “big” for the holidays. In the first of her new series, Sydney went to the Lights at Sandywood in Rochester.
The Claire family started their lights tradition as most families do – with a few lights on the house and garage. About 10 years ago, they decided to buy an electrical cord to get power to the front fence. After that, the whole yard slowly became full of lights.
Lights at Sandywood has become a family affair with Wayne, Kelly, and their kids Ethan, Kyleigh, and Tyler. With each child helping set up and incorporating their own ideas. For example, 14-year-old Kyleigh came up with the idea of adding a walking trail and a scavenger hunt.
Lights at Sandywood is open daily from 10 a.m. to midnight. The lights display synched to music begins at dusk. The display will be up through January 1st.
In addition to Christmas, the Claire family also decorates for Halloween and Easter.
