Rochester-based artists create sidewalk art to be installed downtown

(ABC 6 News) – Downtown Rochester will soon become a lot more colorful! The City of Rochester, Destination Medical Center, and Threshold Arts have teamed up to bring vibrant art to sidewalks around town.

Wednesday, they a meet-and-greet for the public to get to know ten Rochester-based artists creating the pieces.

"These will be used to create a pedestrian walkway through the construction area to encourage people to still visit business downtown. DMC has put a lot of effort, along with the city, and emphasis, in supporting the business that will be impacted by this construction and this is just one part of that initiative," said the Executive Director at Threshold Arts, Naura Anderson.

You’ll be able to find the art along Broadway Avenue, 1st Avenue SW and 3rd Street SW.

"We are just so excited for the opportunity to bring more art to downtown and continue to welcome people back to downtown after COVID. So we really encourage our community to come out, check out the art, check out the artist, and come back downtown its great place to be," added the Director of Community Engagement for the Destination Medical Center Initiative, Jamie Rothe.

The project installations are scheduled to start on Monday, and should take about three weeks.
