Austin letter carrier food drive canceled for third year due to COVID

(ABC 6 NEWS) – The Austin letter carriers annual May Food Drive has been canceled for a third year in a row due to increasing COVID cases.

The food drive was planned for May 14th, but the coordinator of the food drive said increased COVID cases have caused reduced staffing in some post offices.

They wanted to make sure carriers can stay safe.

There is an increasing need for food donations and the Austin letter carriers ask residents to give monetary donations to a local food shelf or non-perishable items.

If you wish to make a monetary donation you can drop it off at the Salvation Army or mail your check to Salvation Army 409 First Ave NE Austin, MN 55912. If you have questions call the Salvation Army at 437-4566.

The Austin letter carriers hope to hold the food drive next year.
