Rochester business owner hospitalized, friends and family raise money for treatment

(ABC 6 News) – A Rochester business owner discovered multiple health issues during a bout of pneumonia.

Craig Cotten, a longtime Rochester fixture and owner of book, comic, and game store Book Review (1618 US 52 N) was hospitalized Thursday, June 23, with pneumonia.

According to posts by his family, Cotten went into septic shock in the Emergency Room and was diagnosed with an aggressive case of leukemia.

"Craig was told that if he had waited any longer to come in that night he would not have survived, as his organs were shutting down because he was going into septic shock," Cotten’s niece Cate Moore wrote on a family GoFundMe for Cotten’s medical care. "Craig was than diagnosed with kidney stones, pneumonia, and on top of that he was told he had a very aggressive acute leukemia. With having both the pneumonia and kidney stones on top of having cancer he doesn’t have much of an immune system to fight this alone, he was admitted to the ICU and was put on a breathing tube. They’re going to start dialysis to try and tackle the pneumonia and kidney problems to hopefully begin to tackle the leukemia."

According to the last posts on the Book Review Facebook page, after the pneumonia and infections are under control, Cotten’s medical team will determine a cancer treatment plan.

The Book Review store is shut down for the foreseeable future, as Cotten is self-employed at the business.
