Dodge Center man sentenced for multiple theft, property damage charges

(ABC 6 News) – A Dodge Center man received three years of supervised probation after a September 2021 burglary arrest.

Shawn Eric Clement pleaded guilty to one count of felony theft Thursday, June 23. An additional charge of 2nd degree assault with a dangerous weapon was dismissed.

Clement and Michael Pies of Minneapolis were accused of attempting to steal lumber from a rural Olmsted County shed.

When the owner discovered the two, according to Olmsted County deputies, one of the pair flashed a handgun, while another used a truck to interfere with the owner’s attempts to follow them.

Clements appeared in court for three sentencings and two additional hearings Thursday.

He received an additional sentence of 169 days in jail with credit for 169 days served, plus more than $4,500 in restitution payments, for pleading guilty to receiving stolen property in June 2020.

Clements also pleaded guilty to 3rd degree criminal damage to property, after driving his vehicle into Oak Summit Golf Course in Nov. 2021.

He was ordered to pay $2,500 in damages and received an additional 142 days in jail, with credit for 142 days served.

Along with the sentences handed down Thursday, Clements appeared in court for two other theft and property damage cases.

Clements pleaded not guilty to a charge of theft of property over $5,000 in value from October of 2021 and charges of property theft, motor vehicle theft, and property damage decreasing an item’s value by more than $1,000 from November of 2021.

Clements will face trial for the additional cases in November of this year.
