(ABC 6 News) — Just a stone’s throw from downtown Rochester, the Honkers hosted the Waterloo Bucks in what proved to be a close contest.
After initially holding a 7-1 lead in the second inning, the deficit shrunk to 7-6 as the Bucks began closing in on the Honkers. In the top of the fifth, Waterloo’s Mason Dobie threatened with a swing towards center field, but it was easily caught to avoid further damage against Rochester.
In the bottom of the sixth, Alex Pimental gave the Honkers some breathing room with an RBI to send Tyler White home, making the score 8-6. Despite an ensuing RBI single from Nico Regino, no more Honkers came home in the inning, Waterloo again working its way into the score.
The game was tied 8-8 until Theo Hardy’s RBI single ended up being the dagger in the ninth, the 9-8 final score giving the Honkers and its fans a big sigh of relief.
